Williams, Mary Cudmore

Studio 230

Phone:  0401 606 549

Mary Cudmore Williams commenced painting in watercolours in 1976 with Eve McArthur and later with Paul Westbury.  She continued her studies with acrylics and oils with Richard Boden who told her never to lose her colour ability.  She has taken classes in Portraiture and Landscape, Life Drawing and attended summer schools with tutors, Frank Hodgkinson, Mirka Mora, Keith Looby, Anne Thompson, Geoff Makin and Stan Rapotec.  Mary broke through into abstract art under the tutelage of Keith Looby who named her top artist at the school.

Since 1985, Mary has been painting full time in her studio at the Salamanca Arts Centre in Hobart.  Her preference is for large-scale, brightly coloured canvases.  She has had three solo exhibitions, one joint exhibition with the Art Society and others with many groups such as the TACA and City of Hobart.  Her large painting 'Genesis' is now hanging in the foyer of the Veterinary Research Institute in Melbourne.  Mary’s work has been purchased by private collectors in Australia and the United States.
