Salamanca Arts Centre Hybrid Performance Residency 2010
Decay: Matt Warren, Sally Rees, Deborah Pollard
Salamanca Arts Centre (SAC) Hybrid Performance Residency, funded by the Inter-Arts board of the Australia Council for the Arts, provides inter-disciplinary artists with the opportunity for exploration and experimentation within a laboratory environment. The Hybrid Performance Residency encourages process driven explorations into form, collaboration and ideas.
2010 lab artists, Matt Warren, Sally Rees, and Deborah Pollard, will incorporate their varying media and interests, with a conceptual and physical focus on endurance/ duration/ repeated action.
Matt Warren and Sally Rees are Hobart based, performance, installation and video artists. Matt also works with sound and is a musician and Sally with photography and text. Deborah Pollard is a Sydney based performer, director, dramaturg and installation artist.
The artists have chosen the word Decay as an overall key provocation to both the subject and form, for the residency.
Their residency will draw on the formal structures of Duration, Improvisation and Performance installation, to explore a number of conceptual concerns which are currently relevant to their individual practices, for example:
- Colour, mood and psychological states - how certain environments influence the mood of those within them.
- City and Isolation - how one manoeuvres oneself through an environment that may be all consuming or alienating by scale or circumstance.
- Absence - both the emotional experience to absence and / or gaps in a continuum.
- Substance of Disbelief - presenting an environment of that encourages an audience to wonder about more esoteric ideas (paranormal, transcendence)
Matt, Sally and Deb will be based with SAC's Peacock Theatre and SideSpace Gallery from 22nd Nov - 12th Dec 2010
