Fraudulent Behaviour
Performance in Peacock Theatre
Presented by Presented by Salamanca Arts Centre and Mobile States
A decoy duck, prose, cardboard cut-outs, a plastic budgerigar that sings and offers companionship and an imaginary friend who eventually leaves her for a life in paradise; Fraudulent Behaviour is a witty and thoughtful performance in response to Nietzsche's assertion that 'we need lies in order to live.'
Fraudulent Behaviour is a philosophically playful exploration of everyday lies and sel--deception. It's about the lies that are rarely questioned, appear to be socially sanctioned and occasionally, taken for granted. It's about the lies that have become habitual responses to uncomfortable or difficult situations, the lies that have replaced the truth and the lies we tell when the truth is too complicated.
Conceptually, Fraudulent Behaviour plays with notions of time and space, interweaving real and imagined worlds to create a compelling and insightful performance about the illusory nature of life. Through intricate story telling Rosie parallels and juxtaposes everyday self-deception and denial with dreams, hopes and desires. The narrative unfolds using spoken word, movement and a series of objects that play with notions of what may be perceived as real.
'...You laugh at her lightness but as you're laughing, she has moved to a darker, lonelier sentiment, evoking such humanity you don't want her to go...' Drum Media
'..it's lovely to be lied to so convincingly...' RealTime 92
