We all want a happy ending.
Sometimes we focus so much on the progress we’ve made & the changes we still strive for,
that the dark places we’ve been & the dark things we carry with us are ignored, avoided,
hidden from view.
That’s what art is for…
13th Annual Artfully Queer Exhibition 2017 OUT OF DARKNESS A community striving to be its best & to overcome the obstacles in its way, can become defensive when confronted with its own flaws and failures. We may admire someone’s resilience in the face of discrimination, we honour them for the courage it takes to challenge injustice, but we tend to overlook the scars they accumulate from every battle. We forget that the scars, those dark times, those dark places, are an equal part of our story, & sometimes they need to be brought out from the shadows. That’s what art is for. If you know a LGBTIQ dark place you’d like to shine a light on, get in touch.
