This summer, the Salamanca Arts Centre is excited to launch
Summer Workshops for Young Creatives.
Come and visit for a range of holiday activities proudly run and designed by a handful of established and emerging Tasmanian based artists and designers.
Participants will have the chance to work with artist Natalie Abbott and explore various approaches to contemporary dance.
Natalie Abbott is an Australian performance maker/choreographer and experimental artist. She is committed to creating sensorial performance experiences and works closely with a team of collaborators in light, design and sound to drive her choreographic vision and deepen her understanding of performance and movement. She is constantly seeking alternative modes of presentation for her work and works both solo and as part of a collective, Deep Soulful Sweats, when creating work. She has collaborated with bodybuilders, sports stars, non-dancers, elderly people, crash mats and her dad to generate an interesting physicality that interrogates her relationship to the dancing body.
Natalie is passionate about creating strange and uplifting experiences for audiences, subverting expectations and finding unique ways to construct and de-construct performance. She is currently investigating physical failure, post virtuosity, lo-fi spectacle, what lies beyond 100% and continuous builds during performance. Natalie is currently developing her body of work through residencies around Australia and the world.
