Duxie Franklin returns to Hobart after 8 months in Melbourne for the much-anticipated launch of her debut single, “Get a Real Job”.
Once described by an audience member as the musical lovechild of Joni Mitchell and Frank Zappa, Duxie’s songs stick in your head like peanut butter to the roof of your mouth. Duxie’s music is a captivating mix of wit, energy and enchantment – creative singer-songwriting at its best. Her razor-sharp lyrics cut through clichés and her poetic subtleties rouse and stir in unexpected ways.
Returning to Tasmania to launch her debut single, “Get a Real Job”, Duxie will be joined live on stage for the first time with her full band. The show will include supports from local indie dream-pop singer-songwriter, Lasca Dry and Avant-garde, genre-bending outfit Butterscotch Pony.
“Get a Real Job” is a boisterous, fun-punk song with a whimsical twist. Inspired by Duxie’s ever-practical parents, the song is a tongue-in-cheek celebration of every artist who’s ever been doubted, dismissed or unappreciated.
Special limited edition pre-release copies of Duxie’s forthcoming EP will be available for sale on the night or via pre-order.
“‘Get a Real Job’ is a rollicking frolic through the minefield of gainful employment. A must-listen for the misguided youth of today.”
