An exploration of light and its interaction with the local environment around us.
This exhibition is a series of acrylic paintings capturing interaction of light with the Tasmanian Landscape by Salamanca Arts Centre Resident Artist Philip Murrell.
“Much of the subject matter comes from Bruny Island where I spend much of my spare time getting inspiration for art work. Bruny Islands endless variety of light together with it being surrounded by water creates endless subject matter for painting.” – Philip Murrell
The works are acrylic on canvas or Masonite using gesso and textural compounds to add a feeling of depth to the work. There is a certain looseness to the work and an approach that less is more in terms of composition and palate choice.
