A Walking Tour of Glenorchy

Suburban and bush landscapes
painted en plein air in West Glenorchy
by Peter Rudd

“I knew little of Hobart before I had the opportunity to move here two years ago. I have come to know my new environment gradually, by walking around and painting in it. My home is at the suburban edge of Glenorchy where the streets and houses rusticate and dwindle as they make way for parkland and bush. The landscape here is raw and unkempt. It changes colour constantly with the weather and the season.

I have enjoyed painting in this diverting neighbourhood at many different hours, from the grey and green of a winter afternoon to the blue and ochre of a summer morning. I love Glenorchy and have tried to capture some of its distinctive shapes and colours in these paintings.”
