Anatomy of Life

Drawings and Paintings about Life
by Hannah Blackmore and Renae Grundy

So much of life is because of death, or the journey to death. Often the beauty of something is transformed by the seasons of the life process, ageing, dying, decay. We find treasures in nature and pick them up – feathers, seashells smoothed, flowers picked, animal bones, berries and they nurture our need for beauty and to connect outside ourselves. The inner workings of the body, bones, tissue and organs a mystery to us in living; revealed through functions of ageing and dying and the cycle repeats. This work explores the daily symbols of the cyclic nature of existence, new and old, ageing, decay and growth. Everywhere we look, we see symbols in the minutiae of daily life, that remind us, life and death are intertwined eternal.
