This new limited concert series will focus exclusively on the original compositions of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli.
Legendary guitarist Django Reinhardt and virtuoso violinist Stephane Grappelli were two of the most influential musicians of the 20th Century. The musical style of the Hot Club of France defined a genre and was the soundtrack of Europe’s emerging string jazz scene for decades.
Hobart based gypsy jazz musicians Harry Edwards (lead guitar) and Charlie McCarthy (violin) will perform two 45 minute sets comprised of a selection of compositions written by Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli.
Expect to hear popular tunes such as ‘Django’s Castle,’ ‘Douce Ambiance,’ and ‘Swing 42,’ as well as more obscure and stylistically eclectic compositions such as ‘Django’s Waltz,’ ‘Anouman,’ and ‘Impromptu.’ Harry and Charlie will be joined by Felicity Lovett (rhythm guitar), and Isaac Gee (double bass), for a fun night of swinging hot gypsy jazz.
Just like the 2018 concerts, this new show will be interspersed with stories and legends of Django’s adventures.
