Editions is an exploration
of the terms, phrases and conventions
that accompany the language of Printmaking.
The Printmakers of Hunter Island Press
invite you into the processes
behind the finished print.
Hunter Island Press (HIP) is a not-for-profit organisation with our primary objective to establish and operate a professional public access print studio in Hobart. The studio provides a place for artists to create work and pass on their skills to the community.
Printmaking is a fascinating medium that encapsulates a range of processes, methods and mediums. It is common for printmakers to have a collegial membership, formed naturally around the printing press. The printing press has a long tradition of being a shared resource, due in no small part to its size, function and expense. Printmaking itself has a long and proud tradition as an art form in it’s own right.
As in all collegial memberships, there is a shared language. Edition. Bon a Tier. Proof, and Unique State. There are also many terms that apply to printmaking mediums. Lino cut. Wood cut. Drypoint. Chine Colle. In the exhibition of Editions ; An Illustrated Glossary of Printmaking, Hunter Island Press will bring these terms alive in visual representations of the myriad possibilities of print.
