An installation by Amanda Meadows, Fibre Safari
An installation of unique wild animal sculptures
created using the technique of needle felting
and featuring Australia’s endangered fauna.
These beautiful animal sculptures are created by Amanda Meadows, Fibre Safari, using only 100% natural woollen fibre. The artist carefully studies and measures the subject from every angle before crafting an aluminium wire armature which acts as a framework over which fibre is laid to gradually build up shape and colour. Every layer is painstakingly locked into place with a special barbed needle to form solid shapes. The process is complex and an average sized piece takes around 30 hours to complete.
