Presented by Salamanca Arts Centre as part of the JAZZAMANCA Spring Series.
Please join us for Performance #2 of the Jazzamanca Spring Series. A series of live jazz performances to a limited audience in accordance with current Covid-19 Restrictions. We’ve decided to space each performance, occurring on a monthly basis across Spring 2020.
Jazz, it’s all about being in the room.
Big Small Band
Big Small Band is a jazz quintet lead by Konrad Park, aka Jazzrad. It’s sound is inspired by the great quintets such as Miles Davis, Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, Branford Marsalis, and the reunion VSOP quintet. The bands members include both relative new comers and established artists including Kelly Ottaway, Isaac Gee, Jonathan Stone, Alastair Dobson, Finn Seccombe and Konrad Park. Big Small Band reflects the blues and visceral modal tonalities of modern jazz, along with the easier listening material from artists such as Horace Silver, Lee Morgan and Jaki Byard. As Horace Silver once said, it might be jazz, but “it’s got to be funky.”
Big Small Band will satisfy, from a whisper to a roar, from blues lyricism through to the collision of modal abstract madness. One of Jazzrad’s long term goals, has been to represent the big acoustic quintet sound that developed from the sixties through to the present day. An experience of the familiar in jazz and a tip of the hat to the legends of jazz, Big Small Band celebrates the contemporary jazz roots while contributing to the continuum of acoustic modern jazz. Now dig this, Big Small Band!

JAZZAMANCA Spring Series
Still riding high from Salamanca Arts Centre’s inaugural Jazzamanca Festival in March 2020 we’ve decided to invite you back into the room. This time it’s a little different with a series of live performances to a limited audience in accordance with current Covid-19 restrictions. We’ve decided to space each performance, occurring on a monthly basis across Spring.
Calling the Founders Room home, you can be rest assured that these intimate curated performances are not to be missed and will be fondly remembered as getting us all back in the room.
Each performance has been curated by the one and only, Australian Jazz legend Mr Ted Vining who promises to bring you the creme of the Tasmanian live Jazz community. Jazz flows through Ted’s veins and it’s all he talks about, so trust us when we say, this cat knows his stuff.
So come on, brush off the Winter blues and come celebrate Spring with live Jazz performances featuring Tasmania’s finest Jazz musicians. Grab your calendar, this is one series you won’t want to miss.
JAZZAMANCA is proudly presented by Salamanca Arts Centre.
