Presented by the Lake Pedder Restoration Committee
The Lake Pedder Restoration Committee invites you to the exhibition and special events to mark an important milestone on the journey to restoration
The beauty of the original Lake Pedder, declared a national park in 1955, inspired a generation of adventurers, nature lovers and artists who felt a deep connection with the wild places of Tasmania. The threat to flood Pedder saw artists and adventurers become activists and politically engaged citizens. Having lost the battle for Pedder in 1972, they united in the fight to save the Franklin, declare the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area, form the world’s first Green Party, the United Tasmania Group, and define the Tasmania we know today.
Lake Pedder : The Journey to Restoration will be a moment to reflect on the awe-inspiring beauty and significance of the original Lake Pedder through the eyes of artists who captured the moodiness and mystery of this spiritual place. From the famed photographer Olegas Truchanas to the Sunday Painters of Patricia Giles, Elspeth Hope-Johnstone, Max Angus to Luke Wagner, Margaret Forsyth and friends.
