Person and Place explores the relationship between people and their environments.
For Margaret Sonnemann, Emily Jones, and Marion Isham, place is inextricably linked to person.
‘Place’ may be broadly understood as a region; a small room; a secure confidence a person’s role in family or community; or that elusive sense of attachment and belonging. Place informs identity and experience.
While there are detours in location, all three artists create significant passages revealing the immediacy and character of their Tasmanian home; and sometimes beyond.
Their ideas are explored through a variety of painting genres including portraiture, contemporary realism, and psychological folk realism.
