An exhibition by emerging artist
Emily-Rose Wills
in response to not having a defined “home”:
a musing on the elements of place that coincide with a physically unanchored self.

“In the wake of finding myself without a permanent residence for a period, the idea and experience of “being without a home” (but not “homeless”) emerged as a creative preoccupation. This has led to reconsidering place in a dynamic context, rather than as a static framework. By approaching the term “place” as fluid, we shift our focus away from the fixed geographical site and instead begin to observe how lived experience within the wider environment influences our broader understanding of the world around us, and in turn the impact of place upon the individual. In short, developing a concept of self away from the notion of home and being an individual within a place, but not of a place.”

The artist acknowledges the palawa people as the traditional owners and ongoing custodians of lutruwita. They pay their respects to elders past, present and emerging, and acknowledge that sovereignty has never been ceded.
