SAC WORKSHOPS :
Chrysalis : DANCE Intensive
with Adam Wheeler [Tasdance]

Three action-packed days
of colliding technique development
with improvisation tools
and performance happenings
with Adam Wheeler.

Each morning will begin with warming up the body, the mind and senses to create space to develop contemporary dance technique of understanding how individual bodies move, releasing in and out of the floor and advancing sequential pathways through the body.

The afternoons will be dedicated to using the skills learnt in the morning to express yourself as a dance artist through inclusive, non-threatening improvisation practice and performance knowledge.

Dancers wishing to pursue a career in dance will gain expert knowledge and skills transferrable across all genres and styles.

Adam Wheeler

Adam is a Tasmanian born dance artist and currently the Artistic Director of Tasdance. He began dancing with Stompin before training at Launceston Dance Centre and the Victorian College of the Arts.

Early in his career he performed and choreographed for Chunky Move, worked on The Ring Cycle with Opera Australia and was part of the pilot team for the Australian Ballet’s Out There Program.

Adam has always had a passion for the development of dance with young people. He founded 2NDTOE (2007), Yellow Wheel (2012), and Alice Can Dance (2012) before becoming the Artistic Director of The Space School for Performance Arts (2014-16) and Head of Contemporary Development at Transit (2017 & 18). He was the Artistic Director of the Australian Youth Dance Festival (2014 & 17) and the Artistic Associate for Stompin from 2008-2018.

Alongside Tasdance Adam is a member of Dance Tasmania, Youth Dance Australia and a panel member for the Helpmann Awards.
