Tasmanian Theatre Company and Straightjacket Productions present Sex With Strangers by Laura Eason
A love story for the 21st Century
“Eason explores professional jealousy, status issues, and the right to a past that doesn’t define your future”
– Theatermania
First staged by Chicago’s legendary Steppenwolf Theatre in 2011, this is storytelling at its best. Dark, sexy and funny, Sex with Strangers delves into the lives of two people equally capable of ambition, kindness and cruelty.
Trapped in a rural writers’ retreat by a snowstorm, serious writer turned academic, Olivia is settling down to write her second novel, which she hopes will be more successful than her first. In from the snow walks Ethan, a brash, handsome, successful Gen-Y blogger with aspirations of literary legitimacy. Olivia succumbs to his obvious charm and seemingly poetic soul.
But can love really bloom between an old-school booklover and a man whose publicity-generating, tell-all memoir “Sex with Strangers” details the rambunctious sexploits chronicled on his internet blog?
Written by award-winning American playwright Laura Eason and featuring a fantastic cast in Samuel Johnson (television’s The Secret Life of Us) and Tottie Goldsmith (Grease, The Rocky Horror Show), Sex with Strangers makes insightful observations about the foibles of first impressions and life in the digital age.
