Sixty Jazz Club (S02E03) : The Danny Healy Ensemble

Presented by Tasmanian Whisky Tours and Matt Boden Music.

After moving to Asia two years ago, Nomadic woodwind musician Danny Healy returns to Hobart to play Sixty Jazz Club. Having been playing in and around Beijing in 2013/14, Healy recently toured with The Violent Femmes and now living in Hanoi, Vietnam he has settled into a regular performing routine at some of the best local venues. After a musical hiatus from our island, Healy is reuniting a Tasmanian ensemble with an original, arranged and free sound.

This ensemble was originally commissioned to perform at MONA FOMA and continued on from there until Healy left the country. The ensemble focuses on tunes composed or performed by arguably the greatest, most prolific composer of the 20th century, Duke Ellington.

Whilst paying homage to the tradition of the sound, the arrangements are more modern with an emphasis on improvisational interplay. Making use of some of Hobart’s most talented musicians, this is an ensemble not to be missed!

This ensemble will consist of –
Danny Healy – Woodwinds | Hayden Dare – Trombone | Matt Boden – Piano and accordian | Ben Brinkhoff – Bass | Alf Jackson – Drums | Tim Jones – Tuba (second set).

You can preview his sound here.

Curated by Matt Boden and Brett Steel. Hosted by Melinda Antal.
