The Icarus Project
is a solar expedition
to catch sunbeams.
Recently NASA scientist Jack Scudder claims to have discovered portals ten thousand miles from earth; portals, he claims, lead to the sun. Inspired by this discovery I am planning a mission to explore these portals. As so many explorers in history have thrown themselves in confrontation with mortality and the parameters of what we describe as reality, I embark on this unreal endeavor, to remind us all that failure and futility are at the very essence of our existence.
The Icarus Project is a solar expedition to capture sunbeams. It is an installation of material explorations including drawing, graph, photography, sound and electronic sculpture, props, artifacts, propaganda and science experiments investigating the myth and science surrounding our sun.
Emerging Artist Rahni Allen, Artist Run Scientific Exploration; A.R.S.E., explores the relationship between science fiction and fact through the eyes of an Artist. The work is compelled by the long tradition of existential exploration, the stories and myth that are borne from the poetry or wonder of existence that are the stories that form our history.
