The Randal Muir Hammond Trio |
JAZZAMANCA :
Summer Series Performance #3

Presented by Salamanca Arts Centre as part of the JAZZAMANCA Summer Series.

Randal Muir
Aaron Entrasz : Guitar
Tom Robb : Drums

Randal first caught the Hammond bug after listening to Tim Neal from the Paul Williamson Hammond combo back in the nineties and then subsequently began obsessing over every aspect of the instrument. This turned out to be a life-consuming pursuit involving collecting and listening avidly to recordings of all the great players, most notably Jimmy Smith, Jack McDuff, Jimmy McGriff, Joey Defrancesco and Larry Goldings, madly practising pedalling and playing bass and lead lines simultaneously, studying the history of the development of the Hammond Organ and Leslie Speaker, learning the essentials of technical maintenance and repair and also quite importantly, finding solutions to the difficulties of transporting the things around.

Playing the Hammond has been Randal’s ticket to many incredible life experiences such as touring Australia with leading Australian blues guitarist, Pete Cornelius and local group Let the Cat Out and playing with the Southern Gospel Choir which culminated in playing with the TSO and a life-changing trip to the US to experience and play in some black gospel churches; the Hammond organ’s spiritual home. In addition to Hobart performances, Randal also plays semi-regularly at the Kickin’ the B nights at Bar 303 in Northcote with Pete Cornelius and Hobart-based jazz groove group, the Stitch.

JAZZAMANCA Summer Series

Still riding high from Salamanca Arts Centre’s inaugural Jazzamanca Festival in March 2020 we’ve decided to invite you back into the room. This time it’s a little different with a series of live performances to a limited audience in accordance with current Covid-19 restrictions. We’ve decided to space each performance, occurring on a monthly basis across Spring.

Calling the Founders Room home, you can be rest assured that these intimate curated performances are not to be missed and will be fondly remembered as getting us all back in the room.

Each performance has been curated by the one and only, Australian Jazz legend Mr Ted Vining who promises to bring you the creme of the Tasmanian live Jazz community. Jazz flows through Ted’s veins and it’s all he talks about, so trust us when we say, this cat knows his stuff.

JAZZAMANCA is proudly presented by Salamanca Arts Centre.
